FIT Dad Q&A with John McLay
With Father’s Day right around the corner, we caught up with Kelly’s husband, John, to get some insight into life inside the McLay household!
1. Describe a typical day as a dad of 2 little ones + a husband to a marathoner and business owner.
When you get to mile 21 or 22 in a marathon and you want to stop and quit and the thought of chugging water or Gatorade seems like a mirage but you know you have to push forward to reach the finish line. Every day is like that with 2 kids and being married to Kelly. Just when you think you can take a break, there is something else that needs to be done or someone who wants to go for a run or someone who wants to play.
2. What's your ideal dad's night/day out?
With or without kids? Ideal day out with their current age would probably be spending time at a pool since Scarlett loves that and ideal night out would probably be dinner and drinks at our local spot Cafe Salerno.
3. Favorite memory (so far) as a dad?
My favorite memory as a dad would be when I saw Scarlett jump into the pool for the first time without fear or hesitation. Also the first time Scarlett completed a whole mile during the kids run at the Becca Pizzi 5k when she was only 2.5 years old. Obviously there are many more favorites as well but those stand out as proud moments.
4. Top 1-3 gadgets/items that you can't live without.
Top 3 gadgets I can’t live without would be my iPhone, AirPods, and Tom Tom.
5. What's the best dad advice you've received?
Since we are in the thick of nighttime potty training...someone told me that no matter how the next couple of months go, I can promise you that she is not going to go to college still wearing a pull-up.
