“Set Goals; Not Limits”
Dave is perhaps best known for his run across the US in 1978 when he ran total of 3,452 miles in 80 days from Medford, OR to Medford, MA to raise money for the Jimmy Fund of Boston. In May 2004, Dave ran across the country again, this time with nine other veterans marathoners, relay style, from San Francisco to Boston as part of TREK USA, an event which he founded and raised over $300,000 for five children's charities. He is also the Race Director of the world's oldest most famous road race, the B.A.A Boston Marathon for which he has worked tirelessly for 36 years. Dave has personally run 165 marathons, including Boston for the past 50 consecutive years; the last 35 at night after his race director duties have been completed. Over the span of his life, he estimates he's run more than 150,000 miles. In his spare time, he's co-authored several books: his authobiography The Last Pick, publish by Rodale Press; and three children's illustrated book: Dream Big, Running Across America, and Finish Strong, published by Nomad Press, Inc. Dave is married with five childre (Ryan 31, Max 28, Elle 18, Luke 16, Chloe 13) and resides in North Andover, MA.
